Meet the Officers

David Liu

2010 Co-President

  • Why did you join Robotics?

I joined robotics because I’ve always been interested in software and electronics, and this was a great way to do both. I made Lego Mindstorms robots when I was younger, but these robots are bigger, badder, and stronger. The demo at Miller Middle School had me hooked.

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

I program the robot and help out with mechanical stuff.

  • What excites you about robotics?

Programming on the computer is one thing, but seeing my programs drive a 120-pound robot is real and tangible. It’s especially rewarding when software can give our robot huge advantages on the field.

Toshitaka Tachibana

2010 Co-President

  • Why did you join Robotics?

I thought the Miller presentation was interesting.

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

I’m no mechanical person so I write grants and work on animations.

  • Why do you like robotics?

It’s fun and it’s worth it.

Chinmay Jaju

2010 Vice President

  • Why did you join Robotics?

Lynbrook robotics has so much to offer! I love building robots but we do so much more too.

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

I work with all of the other members on the machining of parts for our robot, and other activities that involve building that we have throughout the year.

  • Why do you like robotics?

The fact that we can get moving, operational robot in less than 6 weeks is really amazing. It is definitely worth all of the effort when you see something you and your friends have built come to life and compete.

Brandon Liu

2010 Chief Software Engineer

  • Why did you join Robotics?

I joined Robotics because it is a great opportunity to work with and learn from professionals in a wide range of engineering fields.

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

As Chief Software Engineer, I will be leading the software development team to write the code for the robot. One of my side projects is creating member and parent involvement guides to inform members and parents about the activities in Robotics.

  • What excites you about robotics?

It has always amazed me that we are able to come up with a completely original design and build a functional robot in six weeks.

Yuya Bessho

2010 Chief Hardware Engineer

  • Why did you join Robotics?

Because it was my dream to be in a robotics club. Also, it gives me a lot of experiences that I could not get without joining this club.

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

I gain experiences through many activities like fundrasing, designing, building and competing.

  • Why do you like robotics?

The part that most interests me is actually building a robot that never exsisted in the world out of many parts.

Yusuke Sato

2010 Treasurer

  • Why did you join Robotics?

The Miller demonstration of the 2006 robot really drew me in.

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

I help build the robot and work on fundraising, grants, and animations.

  • Why do you like robotics?

It is an unique group activity. I like being immersed in technology.

Karena Cai

2010 Public Relations Officer

  • Why did you join Robotics?

In freshmen year I joined Lynbrook Speech and Debate which did not work as well as I had hoped. This convinced me to switch gears and try something in a whole new field. I joined robotics because I thought it was a good opportunity to get to know more about science and engineering. I thought it would help me establish and expand my knowledge beyond what is taught in the classrooms.

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

So far in the club I have been able to participate in the championship at Atlanta. I don’t have a speciality like mechanical engineering or software engineering, but I like to get my hands dirty and lend a helping hand wherever I can. Also, this summer I will be at Oak Grove, helping out the EagleBots! I look forward to writing grants this year and making some company visits as well.

  • What excites you about robotics?

There are a myriad of things that excite me about robotics. In addition to the robot building and design talk that goes on frequently throughout the year, I love meeting new people whether they be on the team or if they are interested in FIRST robotics and the competitions. The challenges, breakthroughs and discoveries we make during the season are the things that make robotics worthwhile and satisfactory.

Karthik Viswanathan

2010 Webmaster

  • Why did you join Robotics?

In 7th and 8th grade, I was able to view demonstrations of the robot from Lynbrook Robotics. Consequently, I became interested in the program and wondered how they completed such a large project. After my passion for software sparked at the end of 8th grade, I immediately joined Lynbrook Robotics upon entering high school, as it went well with my interests.

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

As the webmaster, one of my main jobs is to manage the website and get it ready for the annual competition. In addition, I also love to work with both the hardware and software. Thus, I try to attend most of the design and build meetings to work in these fields.

  • What excites you about robotics?

The concept of building such a complex robot in a short time really gets me exicted. Not only that, but I also love to see the robot competing after a lot of work has been put into it.

Annie Yang

2010 Secretary

  • Why did you join Robotics?

After the demo at Miller, pretty much everyone in my class wanted to join Robotics. Since everyone else was joining, I joined too. Of course, once I did, my attitude towards the club changed a lot.

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

I take notes at meetings, put together club portfolios at the end of each month, and tell everyone to sign in on the attendance sheet. I also fix up the mascot every time it gets beaten up and help out with many other projects.

  • What excites you about robotics?

Definitely the way this club works as a unit to make a functioning robot from scratch in just 6 weeks. That’s crazy, but that’s Lynbrook Robotics.

Eric Jan

2010 Event Manager

  • Why did you join Robotics?

I joined robotics because I love robots and the hands on experience you get for joining this team

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

There are many things I do in the robotics. During the off season, we visit companies for grants and fund raise during fleet week. And of course, during the season, I spend most of my time in the garage assembling the robot!

  • What excites you about robotics?

What excites me about robotics is the fact that you get to meet cool new people and travel to different states for the competition.

Haochuan Ni

2010 Historian

  • Why did you join Robotics?

I joined robotics because it looked like an interesting past time activity. Eventually, I became more and more absorbed with robotics and its activities. Initially, I thought the club would have a positive impact on my college application, but as time progressed, my attitude changed from “what the robot can to do you” to “what you can do for the robot.”

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

As historian, my chief responsibilities are to take pictures, document major club events, and maintain the newsletter. Of course, I’m not restricted to these tasks, and my favorite robotics task is working with hardware, such as playing with Inventor. Even though I’m not familiar with it, I love creating various objects. I also like software.

  • What excites you about robotics?

The fact that we create sophisticated machines, especially if I’m involved, feels pretty great. I think we all have the right to be proud of our accomplishments. Teamwork is also essential in this club, and it’s fun to work with a good team.

Manami Yokoyama

2010 Honorary Officer

  • Why did you join Robotics?

My sister was in the club and talked to me about robotics a lot. I wanted to give it a try.

  • What are some of the things you do in Robotics?

I take pictures and videos, work on animations and help with fundraisers.
