Cool Tools for Robotics

We at Lynbrook Robotics use some interesting tools. These tools are useful for performing some uncommon tasks, and would be a good investment for any FIRST robotics team.

Dark Soul #25 Chain Breaker

DarkSoul #25 ChainBreaker

The Dark Soul Chain Breaker is used for breaking and rejoining chains to customize their length. It does this by pushing the shaft the holds the plates that make up a chain at a certain point in (join two chains) or out (split a chain).

Remember that the chain number (in this case #25) does matter when using a chain breaker.

DC Current Clamp Meter

The clamp meter can be used to measure AC/DC Current, AC/DC Voltage, Resistance, Capacitance, Frequency, Duty Cycle, Temperature, Diode Test, and Continuity. On the electrical subsystem in the robot, it can be used to find voltage drops and to measure the current so that you can select the right type of wire.

Battery Cable Crimper

The crimping tool is used to compress connectors and the ends of stripped wires together so that the wire can be connected to other devices. To do this, place the connector on the end of the stripped wire and place the two parts underneath the hammer of the crimp tool. Then, bring the hammer down and compress the connector until it is firmly secured to the wires.
